The information you provide when you register will help Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS personnel better assist you in an emergency. Please visit the “Emergency Mangement Information” tab for more information about these two programs.
Dear Residents:
If you own one or more dogs in Downe Township, please know you are required by law to register your dog(s). If you have not yet registered your dog(s) for the current calendar year, please contact Nicole in the Municipal Building, Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm to register. However, please be aware that I am out of the office from 12pm to 1pm usually for lunch and Thursday mornings for inspections.
The dog licenses are valid for a period of one (1) year, from January 1st to December 31st. The dog license registration fee is $7.00 for each spayed or neutered dog. However, if the dog is not spayed or neutered, then the fee is $10.00. Please submit a check or money order and be sure to make it out to the Township of Downe. Dog registrations are due by March 31st each year. In the event that a registrant fails to register their dog within the appropriate time period, then there is an additional late fee of $5.00 thereafter.
In addition to payment, proper documentation is required for each dog. Specifically, be sure to provide the documentation for each dog’s most recent rabies vaccine and for any spayed/neutered procedures, if applicable. All rabies vaccines must be considered valid for at least 10 months of the year before you can register your dog, so the rabies vaccine expiration date must be Nov. 1st of the current year or later. Though, please note, the Cumberland County Health Department does provide FREE rabies clinics at various location around the county throughout the year. See the attachment for specific details regarding locations, dates and times.

* Please Note: This ordinance was adopted on April 8, 2024. The Township has granted a grace period to allow the residents time to install their numbered posts. Therefore, be advised, enforcement of this ordinance will start 2025.
2 EXAMPLES:
The next meeting of the Downe Township Seniors is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 12, 2025 at 11am at the Red Eyed Crab Restaurant, located at 977 Main Street in Dividing Creek, NJ. This meeting is their Holiday Party. Therefore, advance sign up is required.
Though, usually, the meetings of the Downe Township Seniors are scheduled for the second Friday of each month at 10am in the Senior Center, located at 288 Main Street in Newport. Membership dues are only $5.00 for the year. At the conclusion of the business meeting, they usually have a guest speakers followed by lunch. The Cumberland County Office of Aging is also usually present to answer any questions you may have regarding various county and state programs designed to benefit Seniors. They hope to see you there!

Attention any and all Seniors
Did you know that any seniors (members or not) are welcome to attend the exercise classes held at the Downe Township Senior Center? The classes are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:00am. Also anyone interested in playing pinochle can join the Seniors every Wednesday at noon at the Senior Center. Please call the Downe Township Senior Center office (856-447-3039) and leave a message if you are interested in either of these activities.
