All Downe Township Residents must have a new Convenience Center Permit to enter the Convenience Center.
To Apply for a Permit, stop by the Municipal Office at 288 Main Street, Newport between the hours of 9am – 4pm.
Residents must provide:
The new permits are FREE and valid for three (3) years.

The following is a description of what the Downe Township Convenience Center is set up for and therefore, what is acceptable

When you are traveling to the Convenience Center, please remember to tarp your vehicles.
The Township will refuse any hazardous waste such as Asbestos material, chemicals, pesticides, antifreeze. The County offers many programs throughout the year for disposal of such material. You may contact the Cumberland County Improvement Authority at 856-825-3700 for more information.
In April of each year, the Township holds Amnesty Month. You will be allowed to bring 4 rimless tires and 1 Freon refrigeration appliance per household at no charge.
In accordance with N.J.A.C. 7:26 (Department of Environmental Protection) Section 1.4 states: “Convenience Center is a site where one(1) or more containers are located for the temporary storage of solid waste and/or recyclable materials brought to the site by persons transporting ONLY their own household solid waste and/or recyclable materials, in passenger automobiles bearing General Registration Plates.” General registration included the following: Regular Garden State/vanity/specialty group or support (shore/pets, etc.) PBA/Firefighter/Farmer. After researching the NJMVC rules, any vehicle with commercial plates is prohibited from using the Convenience Center. This includes the following Prohibited Plates: Commercial/Farm Use/Commercial Trailer/Farm Truck/Equipment in Transit. Therefore any vehicle bearing the noted plates SHALL NOT USE THE CONVENIENCE CENTER for any waste disposal.
