All dogs in Downe Township must be licensed with the Township each year. New licenses and/or license renewals are due by March 31st of each year. After March 31st a $5.00 late fee will apply.
- You must provide a rabies certification that does not expire during the current year that the license is being issued.
- Written proof of spaying or neutering with date procedure was done is needed. Most veterinary offices can provide a copy of your animal’s record with the spayed or neutered date.
- Checks and money orders can be made payable to “Downe Township”.
- If a dog cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons, a Certificate of Exemption from Rabies Vaccination must be completed by a Veterinarian.

When do I need to license my pet?
A license is required for all dogs six months or older kept within the Township of Downe. Dog licenses are to be renewed by March 31st. You will need to present a copy of your pet’s proof of rabies vaccination and, if applicable, a certification from a veterinarian stating the dog has been neutered or spayed.
Do I have to register my dog every year?
The license must be renewed during the months of January to March each year. Otherwise, you will be charged an additional fee of $5.00 beginning April 1st.
Under state law N.J.A.C. 8:23A, the immunity of the rabies vaccine should extend at least within ten of the twelve months of the license. You cannot get a license if the rabies vaccination expires before November 1st.
How much does a license for my dog cost?
If your dog has been spayed or neutered, the license fee is $7. It will cost $10 if the dog has not been spayed or neutered. It is important that the certification of rabies vaccination and the spayed or neutered certification is presented – otherwise the license will not be processed.
